Galway Daily news Storm Bram road closures

A status orange wind warning will be in place for Galway during Storm Boelo on Saturday, with gale force winds posing a danger to structures already damage by Storm Austen.

Strong onshore winds associated with Storm Boelo are forecast over the weekend, particularly along western and northwestern coasts.

Combined with high tides, storm surge, and large waves, these conditions may result in wave overtopping, and coastal flooding on Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning in Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal, especially at high tide times.

The weather warning for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo will be in place from 2pm tomorrow until 9am on Sunday.

Throughout the day the county will be hit by gale force westerly winds with severe and damaging gusts. A status yellow wind warning will also be in place from 1pm Saturday until noon on Sunday.

A status yellow rain warning will be in place for Galway from 4am until 3pm on Saturday also during the storm.

Heavy winds from Storm Boelo may cause damage to already weakened structures, down power lines and cause outages, and likely disruption to public transport.

People travelling are advised to be aware of fallen power lines, downed trees, loose debris, and very difficult travelling conditions.

There is also a likelihood of coastal flooding where winds onshore, localised flooding from rain, and large coastal waves.
