The number of people with Covid-19 at Galway hospitals decreased yesterday by four, but the number of Covid patients in ICU increased by one.

University Hospital Galway now has 129 people with Covid-19, while Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinalsoe has ten patients with Covid – a decrease of two at both hospitals.

While the overall hospital situation seems to be moving slowly in the right direction, the number of people with Covid-19 in critical care at UHG rose yesterday to 11, and at Portiuncula there are still two Covid patients in critical care.

Portiuncula is operating beyond capacity, with neither general beds or ICU beds available, and there are 17 general beds available at UHG and two ICU beds.

A total of 202 people with Covid-19 were in ICU in hospitals across the state this morning at 8am and there was a total of 1,954 cases in hospitals.

A further 84 cases were confirmed in Galway by the Department of Health yesterday evening, as well as 2,121 across the Republic.

Eight further Covid-related deaths were also reported.
