The number of people hospitalised with COVID-19 at University Hospital Galway has increased to 34 in the latest figures from the HSE.

That is an increase of four confirmed cases at the hospital on the previous day.

However, the number of COVID patients at UHG who are in the ICU has continued to decline, and there are now four people there receiving critical care for the disease.

At Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe there are three confirmed cases, and one of those patients is in intensive care.

Nationwide there were 352 people hospitalised with COVID as of Thursday night, of whom 59 are in the ICU.

A further 1,751 confirmed cases in Ireland were reported by the Department of Health yesterday.
