COVID-19: Slight decline in number of ICU patients in Galway

Galway Daily news UHG is the second most overcrowded hospital in Ireland again this week

The number of people in hospital with COVID-19 in Galway has increased slightly according to the latest figures, but ICU figures show improvement.

There were 138 confirmed cases in hospital in Galway as of 8pm on Saturday according to the HSE, with 129 at UHG and 9 at Portiuncula.

The number at University Hospital Galway remains unchanged, but this is a decline of one patients at Portiuncula on the previous day’s figures.

However, the were just 9 COVID-19 patients in Intensive Care at UHG as of Saturday night, and 2 at Portiuncula’s ICU.

This represents a decrease of two Critical Cases at University Hospital Galway.

There was just one Critical Care bed open each at UHG and Portiuncula Hospital last night.

Nationwide there were 1,872 confirmed cases in Irish acute hospitals, of whom 186 were in Intensive Care.

There were three additional deaths related to COVID-19 among ICU patients in the 24 hours prior.
