Galway Daily news COVID-19: 1,586 new cases notified in Ireland

There have been a further 452 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported by the Department of Health today.

There are 44 people hospitalised in Ireland with the disease, of whom 14 are in the Intensive Care Unit.

There is now county breakdown of the daily figures available from the Department.

These figures may change in the future due to review and validation of data.

The government announced yesterday that the return of indoor activities, eating and drinking, would be pushed back.

Concerns were raised that with the significantly more transmissible Delta variant taking hold in Ireland, allowing indoor dining would lead to a spike in cases before the vaccination programme has hit a high enough threshold.
