Galway Daily news 25 percent drop in COVID cases in Galway hospitals

The Department of Health has reported 215 new cases of Covid-19 and one further death related to the disease.

Of the new cases reported this evening, seven are in Galway, 74 in Dublin, 22 in Donegal, 15 in Kilkenny, 14 in Louth and 11 in Limerick.

60% are under 45 years of age and the median age is 37 years old.

There is a total of five people with Covid-19 at UHG of which one is in ICU. There is just one confirmed case at Portiuncula.

Galway’s 14-day incidence rate is now 55.4.

“Today the Government approved NPHET’s advice on prioritisation of COVID-19 vaccines,” said Dr Tony Holohan this evening.

“This is an important step in the development of the vaccine strategy, being finalised by the High Level taskforce for COVID-19 vaccination.

“While each of us awaits our opportunity to be vaccinated, it is important that we continue to protect each other in the meantime, particularly over Christmas and in the months ahead.”
