There were no deaths related to the coronavirus reported to the HPSC today. The HPSC has been notified of 17 new COVID-19 cases.

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 1,746 lives in the Republic of Ireland, and there have been a total of 25,628 coronavirus cases in the state.

The HSE is working to identify any contacts the patients may have had to provide them with information and advice to prevent further spread.

Fortunately none of the new cases reported today were in Galway. The total figure for the city and county actually declined by 1 today tocorona 489.

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre have advised that in the process of validating data and reviewing addresses, county totals may change due to cases being reassigned to another county.

Dr Ronan Glynn, Acting Chief Medical Officer warned that “This virus is still out there. It is still in people.”

“It only needs the smallest window of opportunity to become a major problem once again.”
