Ten more people have died from COVID-19 coronavirus in the past 24 hours in the Republic, the worst day so far in Ireland since the beginning of the pandemic.

This brings the total number of deaths due to the coronavirus in the state to 19 and the total number on the island of Ireland to 29.

The Department of Health has announced that there have been an additional 255 cases of COVID-19 in the Republic. The total number of cases now stands at 1,819.

The most recent county breakdown in cases shows that at midnight on Tuesday, there were 45 confirmed cases in Galway.

This is an increase of 5 cases from midnight on Monday.

The median age of those who have died is 77 and 13 of the 19 people were male.

There is now over 2,000 confirmed cases on the island of Ireland.
