Galway daily news Seven week road closure in downtown Galway City

A burst water main in Oranmore has forced the Claregalway road to close this afternoon.

Irish Water first reported the burst main on the Claregalway road at Oranmore shortly before 9am this morning.

The R381 Claregalway road (the old N81) is closed from the N67 roundabout at the Maldron Hotel to the junction with the M6 motorway.

Earlier this morning motorists were being advised to seek out a different route, but the road has now been closed to traffic altogether.

According to Irish Water the burst main is causing disruptions to the water supply in homes and business throughout Oranmore.

Repair crews are working on fixing the burst water main, but no time has yet been given by Irish Water for when people can expect work to be completed.
