Iconic three-time Grammy Award winners The Flaming Lips performed at the Heineken Big Top on Thursday for the Galway International Arts Festival – their only gig in Ireland this year.
The buzz was incredible and it seemed all of Galway turned out for a traditional Irish welcome, leading Lips frontman Wayne Coyne to remark with a laugh that the crowd was so noisy it “broke the synth”.
Special effects like confetti cannons, psychedelic light shows, large glitter-filled balloons and blow-up robots and rainbows added the much-hyped pizzaz that led Q magazine to list the Lips as one of ’50 bands to see before you die’.
More than a gig, the Flaming Lips performances are unforgettable experiences.
In keeping with that tradition, this was a night that will undoubtedly be talked about for years to come.
