A man is due before Galway District Court today for allegedly hijacking a car with the driver inside in Galway City at the weekend.
Gardaí have arrested and charged a man in his 20s in connection with an alleged hijacking in the Bael Srutha area of Ballybane on Sunday.
The driver of the vehicle in question reported that at approximately 11:30am, after leaving a shop, another man sat into his car without permission.
The other man reportedly threatened him, forcing him to drive.
After a short while the man demanded that the driver leave the car with him to buy alcohol.
At this time the driver managed to flee the scene.
The driver, a man aged in his 20s, received no injuries during the course of this incident.
Following an investigation, Gardaí have charged a man in his 20s in connection with this incident.
He is due to appear before a sitting of Galway District Court today at approximately 12pm.
