A man in his 50s appeared before Galway District Court this week charged with attempting to engage in a sexual act with a teenager.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, allegedly made a sexual suggestion to a 15 year old working in a store last December, appeared before Judge Mary Fahy this week.
He has been charged with attempting to engage in a sexual act with a child under 17 years of age.
The DPP directed that the case should be prosecuted at the District Court level, but Judge Mary Fahy asked to hear an indication of what is alleged before accepting jurisdiction.
It will be alleged that he followed the youth into a storeroom of the shop, where customers aren’t allowed, and made a sexual suggestion to them.
Judge Fahy accepted jurisdiction, and adjourned the case to next come before the court on March 14 of next year.
