It’ll be a blustery start to the day in Galway, with a status yellow weather warning for heavy winds in place this morning.

Met Eireann has issued a wind warning for Galway, Clare, Cork, and Kerry on Wednesday morning.

This is now in effect, and will remain in force until midday on Wednesday.

During the morning, strong west to southwest winds will batter the west coast, with gusts of up to 90-110km/hr.

Winds will be strongest in coastal areas today, Met Eireann has forecast.

Isolated showers of hail and some thunderstorms are also likely in the morning, with a risk of hail into the mid afternoon.

Marine Gale warnings are also in effect today, with winds reaching gale force 8 on Wednesday, and increasing to strong gale force 9 in the evening on the west coast.

Aside from the wind, which is forecast to die down in the evening, scattered heavy rain showers are also expected throughout the day.

These will be mixed with some clearer spells, and even sunny skies at times. Highest temperatures on Wednesday of 6 – 9 degrees.
