Galway Daily news snow and ice weather warning

Met Éireann’s status yellow warning for snow and ice came into effect overnight in Galway and will remain in place throughout today.

Snowstorms are expected in most of the county throughout this afternoon, which could lead to treacherous conditions on the roads.

The warning is set to be lifted at 11pm tonight, but a separate warning for ice and low temperatures will then be in place for Galway until 10am on Friday morning.

Forecasters have said that wintry showers will lead to travel disruption and poor visibility on the roads.

Met Éireann said that the snow will be accompanied by strengthening easterly winds today, and that snow is expected in many areas along with icy conditions.

In southern counties, the sleet and snow will likely transition to rain for a time.

The second weather warning for low temperatures, which will be in place tonight, advises motorists that there will be widespread icy stretches on the roads.
