Weather warning for Galway ahead of heavy rain

The sunshine and clear skies across much of Galway today is set to make way for heavy rain tonight and throughout tomorrow.

Met Éireann has issued a status yellow warning for Galway which will come into effect at midnight tonight, remaining in place for 24 hours.

Rainfall of 30 to 50 mm is forecast along with some localised flooding. Met Éireann says that the highest accumulations will be in mountainous areas.

Clare, Cork, Kerry, Mayo, and Waterford are also affected by the status yellow weather warning.

Today will see a mix of sunny spells and patchy cloud, staying dry in most places with just a few isolated showers.

It will feel quite mild in afternoon sunshine with highest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees Celsius, in light to moderate westerly winds.
