Status Yellow weather warning for thunderstorms issued

Another Status Yellow weather warning has been issued forecasting thunderstorms with heavy rain and possible flooding throughout Monday in Galway.

The alert from Met Eireann warns of “Heavy, possibly thundery, rain at times overnight and during Monday with accumulations of 25 to 40mm in places.”

Localised flooding may occur as a result of this the forecaster has said.

The warning will be in force from 2am on Monday morning, until midnight the same day.

It covers all of Munster, as well as counties Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford, Wicklow, Offaly and Galway.

This is the second weather warning for thunderstorms across the southern half of Ireland which has been issued this weekend, after a similar alert was in force on Saturday.

Cork has been particularly badly hit by localised flooding recently, after heavy rains blocked many roads over the weekend.

In Galway conditions are expected to stay mostly dry tonight despite overcast skies, with a moderate easterly winds, and highest temperatures tonight of 15 degrees.
