Galway weather: Orange Warning issued as significant snow expected

Met Éireann has upgraded its weather warning to status orange this morning as further spells of sleet and snow are expected today combined with strong east to northeast winds.

The forecasters say significant accumulations of snow are expected in some areas along with icy conditions.

Connacht, along with Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Clare, Longford, Louth, Meath and Westmeath, are affected by the latest warning from Met Éireann.

The orange snow and ice warning comes into effect this morning at 11am and will remain in place for 23 hours until 10am tomorrow.

Motorists have been warned that the snowfall and ice will lead to very hazardous road conditions, travel disruption and poor visibility.
