The period of windy weather is showing no sign of subsiding this week with Met Éireann issuing yet another weather warning for wind for Galway.

The forecasters say ‘very strong and gusty west to northwest winds’ are in store for the county tomorrow, Thursday, with hazardous wintry conditions also expected tonight.

Snow, sleet and isolated thunderstorms are possible across many parts of the West tonight, along with strong winds and temperatures around freezing.

The status yellow wind weather warning will come into effect in Galway at 8am on Thursday, remaining in place until 6pm.

It also affects Clare, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo, with a separate wind warning also in place in Donegal and Mayo today.

Tonight’s forecast (Wednesday)

Met Éireann says that tonight will feel ‘raw’ with brisk westerly winds feeding in some snow, sleet and rain showers, along with possible isolated thunderstorms.

Lowest temperatures in Connacht will be -2 to +1 degrees tonight, feeling even colder owing to an added wind chill factor.

Some frost and ice will also set in, especially in sheltered areas.

Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo are under a snow/ice warning until Thursday morning at 10am, while Derry, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Antrim have a snow warning which will remain in place until tomorrow evening.

Tomorrow, Thursday

Snow showers and icy stretches during the morning will lead to treacherous conditions, Met Éireann say. Some thunder showers with local hail are possible too.
