Galway’s westend are hosting a cycle buffet to celebrate the food and cycling cultures of Galway for National Bike Week this month.
The 2019 Bike Buffet will kick off National Bike Week in Galway on Saturday, June 22 in a to wheeled exploration of Galway starting in Raven’s Terrace at 3pm and finishing in Fr Burke Park at 6pm.
This event is being jointly organised by Galway’s Westend, the City Council and Galway Urban Greenway Alliance.
As they cycle around Galway people will get to sample some of the best restaurants in the westend.
The three course meal will kick off with a starter at the award winning FoodSpace on the NUIG campus.
Then it’s time to cycle to a secret location for an alfresco main course from Botown Craft Beers and Burgers.
The journey continues through Galway and the buffet will finish at Fr Burke Park with a dessert of whipped ice cream and fresh berries.
All the vegetables, fruits and herbs for this are being supplied by Presentation Primary School Garden.
Sculptor Donnacha Cahill will have a piece of his works at Fr Burke Park which will also be doubling up to play some serious tunes.
The westend Bike Buffet started in 2016 as a pilot scheme as part of National Bike week aimed at any locals who can cycle.
It aims to bring people together through combining social activities like eating and exercising.
“We wanted to bring people into this area to explore it and through food we can do this,” one organiser said.
“Last year there was 100 people on the Bike Buffet and around 30 children. The day is so positive and people really gave us great feedback.”
“They loved cycling through Galway and especially up through Dangan and along the river. It really opened up the conversations around a greenway and safer cycling”.
This event is open to anyone and tickets are €25 per person for three food stops and to take part in the Bike Buffet.
