This week, Galway Daily’s national polls focus on camogie as we get our followers to help us pick the overall team of the year.

It’s up to our readers whether they want a pre-dominantly Galway team or whether they want to take the best of around the country to form a dream team.

That being said, we also encourage camogie enthusiasts around the country to get involved and make sure their favourite is in the mix.

While we did do a provisional competition back in April, we decided to start again from scratch as players movement in various different positions would deem it unfair to pigeon hole anyone in just one slot.

That being said, we intend to put our 15 qualifiers into their regular starting place and that’s where our followers come in.

We have selected the 68 players who have impressed us over 2018 and we want your help to bring this number down to 15.  Then we will put those names into a team that we will announced on Thursday (4th October).

There are four goalkeepers, 32 defenders, eight midfielders and 24 attackers and they will be whittled down to the final 15 over the next three days as follows:

Goalkeepers – Monday (one group x four – top three qualify), Tuesday (one group x three – top two qualify), Wednesday (one group x two – winner makes team).

Defenders – Monday (eight groups x four – top three qualify), Tuesday (six groups x four – top two qualify), Wednesday (three groups x four – top two make team).

Midfielders – Monday (two groups x four – top three qualify), Tuesday (two groups x three – top two qualify), Wednesday (one group x four – top two make team).

Attackers – Monday (six groups x four – top three qualify), Tuesday (six groups x three – top two qualify), Wednesday (three groups x four – top two make team).

The opening round groups will be random draw but on Tuesday and Wednesday, players will be seeded based on your percentage vote.

Galway have 14 nominees (Sarah Healy, Sarah Dervan, Tara Kenny, Roisin Black, Lorraine Ryan, Shauna Healy, Heather Cooney, Niamh McGrath, Niamh Kilkenny, Aoife Donohue, Ailish O’Reilly, Carrie Dolan, Niamh Hanniffy, Caitriona Cormican).

Double All-Ireland champions Cork have the most contenders with 17, followed by Galway (14), Kilkenny (12), Tipperary (6), Dublin (5), Limerick (3), Waterford (3), Kerry (2) while Clare, Down, Meath, Offaly, Roscommon and Wexford have one player each.

So, join us in deciding our team of the year and we’ll update latest scores/results each day.  All ties will be decided by our adjudication committee and we look forward to seeing what 15 players make the final cut on Thursday.
