County Under 14 B1 Cup Final – Sunday, 6th May

Clarinbridge 3-4 Salthill/Knocknacarra 1-2

Darren Kelly in Duggan Park

Katie Scully was the substitute hero as Clarinbridge won the Galway camogie B1 Cup in Ballinasloe after entering the field midway during the first half.

The corner forward was on the end of a crucial first half goal to give the eventual winners a 1-2 to 0-1 interval advantage before adding two more majors during the second period.

Caoimhe Connolly came close on three minutes to a goal but Ailbhe Whyte did get Clarinbridge off the mark with a free on five minutes.

She finished a move including Josie Fallon and Connolly for their second minor before Aoife Keane ran the length of the field to convert Salthill/Knocknacarra’s first free on 10 minutes.

But on 19 minutes, Whyte turned provider and picked out Scully who gave Clarinbridge a four-point half-time cushion.

There was nearly further distance after the restart when Alison Greaney came close.  But Salthill/Knocknacarra were back in the tie within three minutes.  Keane’s long ball deflected nicely for Aoibhe Joyce who took possession and picked her spot.

But their revival was short lived as Clarinbridge got their second goal four minutes later.  Connolly tested the reflexes of keeper Aoife Kelly and defender Rionach Kelly also clear off the line.  But following two attempts, Scully got the goal to make it 2-2 to 1-1.

Joyce registered a long range free to bring Salthill/Knocknacarra back to within three points but their hopes were vanquished seven minutes from time.  Whyte with the assist gain and Scully concluded her hat-trick.

Clarinbridge were six points clear before Sibohan Carr gave them the insurance score in the final minute.  And Whyte concluded their total in injury time to secure the B1 Cup crown.
