Young girl killed and boy seriously injured in Ballinasloe collision

A young girl has been killed and young boy seriously injured after a road traffic collision.

The 9 year old girl was out cycling with the 7 year old boy near Ballinasloe when they were in a fatal collision with a car.

The incident took place on the R358 Ballinasloe to Ahascragh road at around 11:55am on East Sunday.

The two children were taken to Portiuncula Hospital where the girl was pronounced dead.

The young boy remains in a serious condition in hospital.

Gardaí have closed the road to allow a forensic examination to take place.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact Ballinasloe Garda station at 090 963 1890.
