Restrictions placed on the Mid-Galway Public Water Supply are expected to last until 5pm on Friday, Irish Water has confirmed.

Restrictions were introduced during the recent cold spell due to very high levels of demand, in order to conserve water.

Leak detection crews are continuing to identify leaks and carry out repairs, but Irish Water says this will take time.

They are recommending that people allow 2 to 3 hours after the 5pm restoration time on Friday for their supply to fully return.

Customers are also being asked to assist by checking for and repairing leaking pipes on their properties, and avoiding overflowing troughs on their farms by turning off the taps.

They are urged to check unoccupied or empty premises for leaks which could be draining the network and impacting supplies.

People can report leaks on the public network via water.ie or by calling 1800 278 278.

Irish Water is also advising people never to leave taps running as this will not necessarily prevent pipes from freezing and can bleed the network, seriously impacting the local water supply.

The Irish Water customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact us on Twitter @IWCare with any queries.
