Gardaí in Galway City have seizied multiple e-scooters and an electric motorbike in recent weeks, including one e-scooter capable of doing 82km/h.
On Thursday evening Gardaí seized two e-scooters and an electric motorbike in the Cappagh Park area of Knocknacarra, all of which were being driven by young teenagers.
One of the scooters was tested and found to be capable of speeds up to 82km/h.
Prior to this, on August 11 & 12, the Road Policing and Community Policing units in Galway City seized seven e-scooters, including one being used by an 11-year old.
One e-scooter tested on a dynamometer was found to be capable of travelling at 74km/h, despite the 20km/h limit.
Fines were issued for offences including breaking red lights and using pedestrianised areas and footpaths.
