Galway and Roscommon ETB have signed an agreement with the Department of Education to deliver the new amalgamated Primary School for Tuam.

Galway East TD Seán Canney said that he has received confirmation from Minister for Education Norma Foley that the Department has now devolved the project to GRETB.

Canney explained that the next step is for the GRETB to procure a Design Team for the project to design the buildings, get the necessary statutory planning permissions and progress the works to tender and construction stage.

Welcoming the progress, the Independent TD said that the new school is a ‘very necessary educational facility’ for primary education in Tuam.

“The three existing national schools have amalgamed and are ready to move to a new modern fit for purpose facility,” he said.

“I will continue to work with the Department and the schools to ensure that this project is delivered in the shortest time possible.”
