Galway Daily news Portiuncula Hospital restricting visitation amid Flu & COVID outbreaks

Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe is dealing with extremely heavy overcrowding today with 29 patients on trolleys.

Not only is Portiuncula far more overcrowded than University Hospital Galway today, it is the third most overcrowded in Ireland after UH Limerick (54), and Cork UH (36).

The Saolta hospital Group has said that the spike in overcrowding is due to an increasing number of people presenting with respiratory and flu like conditions.

Long delays are expected at the Emergency Department today, and people are being advised to avoid the hospital if at all possible.

There are a total of 414 people in Ireland’s public hospitals without a proper bed today according to the INMO’s daily Trolley/Ward Watch.

University Hospital Galway is having a better day than normal, with ten patients on trolleys in the Emergency Department.
