People are being urged to support family carers by registering for the fundraising campaign Paws for a Cause.

The walk and run fundraiser for Family Carers Ireland has raised over half of its €50,000 goal, and the charity is urging anyone who has not yet registered to do so.

Head of Communications and Policy at Family Carers Ireland, Catherine Cox, said that the charity appreciates the support fro those who have walked or ran 24 kilometres in seven days to highlight the 24/7 nature of family caring.

“We’re mid-way through our fundraising campaign and we’re making one final push to reach our target,” said Catherine Cox.

“You are helping us to provide a vital lifeline to the forgotten frontline of this pandemic and shine a light on their remarkable contribution to our society.

“Every penny raised goes directly to support family carers in crisis and we are appealing to everyone to donate whatever they can to Paws for a Cause.”

The funds raised will go directly to Family Carers Ireland’s National Crisis Fund, which supports families most affected by Covid-19, by providing emergency respite, counselling, emotional support and one-to-one well-being reviews, as well as the purchase of practical support items including hoists, wheelchairs and in some particularly difficult cases, putting food on tables and oil in heating tanks.
