Pedestrian killed after being hit by car near Ballinasloe

A pedestrian was killed in a road traffic collision on Saturday evening when he was struck by a car near Ballinasloe.

At around 7pm yesterday evening the pedestrian, a man in his 50s, was out on the Deerpark road at Kilclooney, Ballinasloe when he was hit by a car.

The man, believed to be a local, was pronounced dead at the scene and is body wad removed to University Hospital Galway.

Gardaí closed the Deerpark road from Ballinasloe to Killure, known locally as ‘The Bog Road’ to await enough light to carry out a technical examination.

The gardaí are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information, to contact Ballinasloe Garda station on 090 9631890 or the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.
