There are more than 70 people on trolleys in Galway’s hospitals today, with heavy overcrowding at both UHG and Portiuncula.

University Hospital Galway is the second most overcrowded in the country again today, with 49 patients going without a bed.

In the emergency department at UHG there are 36 patients waiting on trolleys, with another 13 in the hospital’s wards.

Portiuncula Hospital is also having a bad day, INMO figures show, with no beds available for 22 patients.

Of those, 10 are on trolleys in the emergency department, and 12 people are without a bed in the wards.

Nationwide, the INMO Trolley/Ward Watch shows a total of 482 people in Ireland’s hospitals today for whom there are no beds available.
