One man has been killed following a two vehicle collision on the N17 this morning.

Gardai are investigating a road traffic collision between a car and a van that took place at around 1am on Monday.

Gardai, Fire and Ambulance Services attended the scene of the crash near Carrownurlar, Milltown.

A garda spokesperson said that the driver of the car, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the van, a man in his 50s, was taken to Castlebar General Hospital in Mayo as a precaution.

“The scene is currently preserved and Garda forensic collision investigators have been requested to examine the crash site.”

The N17 between Milltown and Ballindine remains closed and traffic is being diverted in both directions.

Gardaí at Tuam are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward, particularly any motorists who were travelling in the area at the time and may have dash cam footage.
