More than 70 patients on trolleys in Galway hospitals

There were more than 70 patients on trolleys in Galway’s hospitals this morning as they continue to deal with pressure after the Bank Holiday.

At University Hospital Galway there were a total of 52 people without beds today, the third highest level in the country.

The Emergency Department at UHG recorded 42 patients on trolleys on Wednesday morning.

A further 12 people were admitted to the hospital wards with no beds available for them.

Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinaslo is also dealing with great pressure, with 21 patients admitted for whom no beds were available.

In the emergency department at Portinicula there were 10 patients on trolleys.

INMO figures show a further 11 people in the wards at Portiuncula for whom no beds are available.

It has been an extremely bad day for hospital overcrowding on Wednesday, with INMO Trolley/Ward Watch figures showing 710 people on trolleys this morning.

University Hospital Limerick is the worst affected, with a recorded breaking 150 people on trolleys.

This is followed by Cork University Hospital (60), University Hospital Galway (52), and Sligo University Hospital (40).
