A Mayoral Ball will take place in Loughrea this month to raise funds for two important charities taking care of people’s health in Galway.

The County Mayoral Ball will be hosted by Cllr. Michael Moegie Maher on Saturday, May 27 at the Meadow Court Hotel in Loughrea.

Proceeds from the Ball will go towards Galway Hospice and the Galway Parkinson’s Association.

Galway Hospice Foundation is a voluntary organisation supporting patients, with advanced diseases, needing palliative care, to attain the best quality of life possible by providing a range of support services including inpatient, day care and home care.

It provides three Specialist Palliative Care Services – an Inpatient Unit in Renmore, Community Palliative Care Services and Palliative Day Care Service.

The Hospice currently looks after over 1,000 patients per year and demand for its services continues to increase.

It must raise €1.8 million to ensure the continued delivery of Hospice Home Care, Day Care and Bereavement Support services to people throughout Galway City and County, as well as to those residing on the adjoining islands.

Galway Parkinson’s Association has been helping people afflicted with Parkinson’s disease for over fifteen years, providing a range of services including the Parkinson’s disease nurse specialist community service, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and a weekly social club.

It was a challenging year for many, but I was inspired every day by the resilience, innovation and sheer determination of the people of Galway County and I am delighted to have the opportunity to host the Mayoral Charity Ball and welcoming everyone to the Meadowcourt Hotel in Loughrea’.

“I have met with people who volunteer and benefit from the Services provided by the Galway Hospice Foundation and Galway Parkinsons Association and am learning of the significant impact they have and respite they offer to those who avail of their services”

He added that, “We have a great night’s entertainment planned and our Guests can look forward to supporting these very worthy beneficiaries and a wonderful evening of food, dancing and music”.

The evening will begin at 7pm, with Dinner served at 7.30 and an array of entertainment is being provided throughout the evening, Tickets are 50 euros per person.

Tickets may be purchased or donations submitted by contacting the Mayoral Office at Corporate Services Galway County Council – Tel: 091-509310.
