A man seriously injured in a traffic collision in the west of Ireland earlier this week has been pronounced dead.

Two pedestrians, a 33 year old man and a young girl, were injured in a traffic collision involving a car in Ballina, Co. Mayo on Tuesday.

The male pedestrian, who was taken to Mayo University Hospital with serious injuries, was pronounced dead on Wednesday evening.

The local Coroner has been informed, and arrangements are being made for a post-mortem examination.

Additionally, the female child who was also injured has been discharged from the hospital.

Following the completion of examinations by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, the road, previously closed, has been reopened to traffic.

Gardaí are renewing their appeal for witnesses to the collision to come forward. Those with camera footage (including dash-cam) from the area at the time are urged to provide it to Gardaí.
