Man arrested after armed support unit called to Mervue incident

One man was arrested following the intervention of the armed support unit at an incident in Galway City yesterday.

Shortly after 7pm on Saturday, Gardaí attended the scene of an incident on the Michael Collins road in Mervue.

In the course of the incident it’s understood Gardaí were threatened at knife point.

A man in his 40s was arrested after the intervention of the armed support unit, and was brought to Galway Garda Station.

Gardaí say there were no reports of any injuries.

The man was due before a special sitting of Galway District Court this morning.
