A man has appeared before Galway District Court following the alleged assault in Mervue on Tuesday night.
Gardaà arrested a man in his late 20s following the assault which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The man was then charged and appeared before Galway District Court on Wednesday.
The victim of the assault, a man aged in his 40s, is continuing to receive treatment at Galway University Hospital.
