Galway Daily news Plans submitted for 86 apartments in Shantalla

Planning permission is being sought for a residential development of 86 apartments, and commercial unit, in the Shantalla area of the city.

Approval is being sought by Sean Talamh Development Ltd for the demolition of the former T O’Higgins & Co store and covered storage yard on the Rahoon Road.

In its place, the developer intends to build an apartment complex ranging from three to five storeys in height, arranged around a central landscaped green area.

The housing will consist of 21 one-bedroom apartments, 59 two-bedroom apartments, and 6 three-bedroom units.

The complex will have basement car parking totaling 97 parking spaces, 11 of which will have electric vehicle charging points, along with 194 bicycle spaces.

The development will also include a creche with an outdoor play area, and a single commercial unit with outdoor seating.

The vehicle access point to the site will be moved, and upgrades made to the existing pedestrian laneway.

The planning application cover report states that 16 apartments would be provided for social or affordable housing, in line with the Part V planning law requirements.

Galway City Council is due to make a decision on this planning application by August 7 of this year.
