Galway Daily news Plans submitted for community nursing unit at Merlin Park Hospital

New visiting restrictions have been brought in at University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park Hospital due to the rise in COVID-19 infections in the community.

One visitor per patient is allowed at the hospitals each day, for a visit lasting just 15 minutes.

Visiting times at University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital are between 2.00pm and 3.00pm, and in the evening between 6.00pm and 7.00pm.

Visits must be pre-arranged by family members or visitors, who should contact the relevant ward or unit in advance.

Visitors will be asked to produce their EU Digital COVID Certificate or HSE vaccination record, or other proof of immunity, at the entrance to the hospitals.

They may be asked to show some photo ID to prove that the proof of immunity is theirs.

There are exemptions from the requirement for the EU COVID Cert or vaccine record or other proof of immunity, on compassionate grounds.

Children may not visit the hospital unless agreed in advance, on compassionate grounds, with the ward or unit manager.

There are separate arrangements in place for access to the maternity department for nominated support partners.

Anyone coming to the hospital must complete a COVID-19 screening checklist and follow the public health guidance, including wearing a surgical face mask and performing good hand hygiene regularly.
