A number of motorway accidents have been reported in Galway this morning after frequent hail showers caused dangerous conditions on the roads.

Road conditions remain slippery in east Galway after frequent showers of hail, with drivers urged to use caution as accidents have already taken place on the M6, M17, and M18 motorway.

A Status Yellow weather warning for snow and ice issued by Met Eireann yesterday will remain in force in Galway this morning until 11am.

Gardaí and emergency services have been attending the scene of multiple collisions this morning, with one incident on the M6 reportedly involving an articulated lorry.

AA Roadwatch is reporting that the westbound lane of the M6 has reopened to traffic between Junction 16 for Loughrea and Junction 18 for Rathmorrissey after multiple collisions this morning.

The M17 has reopened after collisions were cleared between Junction 19 and 20, as has the M18, which was closed between the Kiltiernan and Rathmorrissey junctions.
