Gardaí are investigating the unfortunate drowning death of a man which happened in Salhill today.
The drowning incident occurred when a man in his late 70s was out swimming at Blackrock in Salthill around noon on Friday, August 23 and got into difficulty.
A garda spokesperson said that his body was recovered by a lifeguard who was assisted by Salthill gardaí.
The man was taken from the water in Salthill to University Hospital Galway.
A post mortem examination will now take place and a file will be prepared for the Coroner’s Court.
