Galway restaurant crowned Best in Connacht at Food and Wine Awards

JP McMahon’s Michelin starred restaurant Aniar has been crowned the best Restaurant in Connacht at the prestigious Food and Wine Awards 2019.

It was also a good evening for Loam with its head chef Enda McEvoy winning Best Chef in Connacht and the Michelin starred restaurant being ‘highly commended’ in the Best Restaurant in Connacht category.

Kai was ‘commended’ in the Best Restaurant in Connacht category, while Kai’s Jess Murphy was ‘commended’ and ‘highly commended’ in the Outstanding Champion and Best Chef in Connacht categories respectively.

Outside of the city, Gather Restaurant in Tuam was ‘highly commended’ in the Readers’ Choice Awards, as was Inis Meáin Suites, Inishman in the Farm & Sea to Plate category.

JP McMahon, whose cafe and wine bar Tartare was also commended on the night, said he was delighted with Aniar’s win.

“While our food has evolved over the years, our dedication and resolve remains constant – we are passionate about producing a unique experience for our guests and advocating for food from the west of Ireland,” he said.
