Galway hospitals see slight increase in COVID cases

University Hospital Galway and Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe have seen slight increases in the number of confirmed COVID cases receiving treatment, the latest HSE data shows.

There are now 19 people with the virus at UHG and five confirmed cases at Portiuncula Hospital as of 8.00pm on Tuesday evening.

Nationally, the number of people hospitalised with COVID rose to 532 on Tuesday night – and this rose again to 568 at 8.00am this morning.

Two of the cases at both UHG and Portiuncula Hospital are in their intensive care units, while there are 92 cases in intensive care units across the State as of this morning.

The Department of Health reported 9,006 further cases of COVID-19 yesterday. Recent days have seen as much as 50 percent of all tests coming back with positive results.

Thousands have also reported difficulty with booking a test in the first place due to incredibly high demand.
