Galway Daily news Fresh plans to replace Bohermore pub with new hotel

Fresh plans have been submitted for the demolition of Tonery’s Pub in Bohermore, and the construction of a new hotel on the site.

The planning application by Carra Shore Hotel (Galway) Limited calls for the demolition of the pub and garage building on the 0.275ha site.

In its place the developer intends to build a 182 guest bedroom hotel, four storeys in height, with a further two floors below ground.

The planning report submitted with the application states that the hotel will, “provide additional tourist accommodation within Galway City, while also increasing employment opportunities in a highly accessible area in close proximity to public transport”.

No car parking is provided with the development, as it is envisaged that the majority of guests and staff will avail of public transport, the planning report states.

The landscape plans show a central courtyard area with green space, and additional gree areas at the rear of the site.

The city council had previously given the green light in 2021 for pub to be knocked and replaced with a hostel.

This planning application is currently at the pre-validation stage, and does not indicate when a decision is due from the city council.
