Refunds for people who had already paid for this year’s Leaving Certificate exams have been processed by the Department of Education, it has been confirmed.
Families in Galway who paid for the Leaving Cert will receive the refunds in the next few days, East Galway TD Ciarán Cannon said.
Students in schools sitting the Leaving Cert for the first time this year were due to pay a fee of €116 – while students repeating the exams were to pay a fee of €301.
But the exams were postponed due to concerns arising from the COVID-19 pandemic and students have now been given the option of receiving ‘Calculated Grades’.
Students also have the option of sitting the exams at a later stage, when it is deemed safe to do so.
Commenting on the refunds, Minister Cannon said: “The cancellation of the Leaving Cert exams this year means that there will be no need to pay fees and fees for Junior Certificate/Cycle have also been waived.
“I therefore welcome the confirmation that for any families in Galway who had already paid these fees, refunds have now been processed by the Department of Education and Skills.”
