€100k LEADER funding for Belclare sports facilities

Sports facilities in Belclare are set for a major upgrade, with almost €100,000 in LEADER funding approved to upgrade Belclare Sylane Community Centre.

The funding approved under the LEADER programme is for an upgrade to the playground area and astro-turf pitch at the community centre sports facility, as well as improvements to the car park.

Galway East TD and PRO of Belclare Sylane Community Council Seán Canney said “The facility has been awarded €99,218.82 in grant assistance toward three projects”.

These will include replacing the playing surface on the Astro Turf Pitch, the ball catch net, the playwood sheeting in the recessed goals and their nets, and replacement of floodlights with LED energy saving lights.

The project will also involve new play equipment to the playground to help develop functional movement in young children, the installation of a swing basket for children with disabilities and the installation of outdoor exercise equipment for all ages.

The car park adjacent to the main road will also be resurfaced with this funding.

“The grant of funding represents a major boost to help the wellbeing of people of all ages in the community,” Sean Canney says.
