Gardaí investigating Eyre Square stabbing

Gardaí are investigating a stabbing incident that is reported to have occurred in Eyre Square, Galway City last night.

The alleged stabbing took place at approximately 10:20pm on Thursday night.

A main in his 20s suffered multiple apparent stab wounds, and was taken to University Hospital Galway.

A garda spokesperson said that his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Garda arrested a man, aged in his 40s, nearby and he was taken to Galway Garda station.

He has been detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

A knife has also been recovered by Gardaí and is subject to analysis.

Investigations are ongoing.
