An East Galway TD has welcomed the move by RTÉ to screen Shakespeare classics for students at home.

Minister for the Diaspora and International Development Ciaran Cannon has said that it is an excellent facility to offer to students as it will bring the works of Shakespeare to life for them and also help with revision purposes for exams.

“While the Bard of Avon has come up with some of the most memorable lines in the English language, studying his works in an in-depth manner requires diligence and application, especially when dealing with large sections of text”.

“I`m delighted therefore that RTÉ are to screen a number of his classics for the benefit of secondary school students at home”.

“I understand that these are BBC productions with casts filled by some of the world`s most renowned actors and it is an excellent facility to offer to students as it will bring the works to life for them and also help with revision purposes for exams”.

Minister Cannon added “The season of Shakespeare works will commence on 11th April and run to the 2nd May and I urge students in the county who are to be examined in these plays to ensure they tune in with plays available on the RTÉ Player after they have been screened”.
