The Galmont Hotel & Spa in Galway City has submitted extension plans to the city council which will add 12 new bedrooms to its existing accommodation.

Galway Leisure Investments, owners of The Galmont, are seeking planning permission to demolish two bedrooms in the east wing to construct new link extensions between the north and east wings.

The project will also involve extension works on the third and fourth floors of the north and east wings, which will as 14 new bedrooms.

This will leave the city centre hotel with a net gain of 12 bedrooms from the expansion.

“The objective of this proposed rooftop extension is to meet the demand for additional accommodation required in Galway City Centre,” the application states.

“The design approach is to blend into the existing building style using a grey panel system to match the existing rooftop/penthouse on the eats wing of the hotel”.

“Elsewhere brick is used as indicated to match into the existing material palette on the hotel facade.”

“There is no additional parking proposed as part of this planning application,” the application states, adding that the current provision consists of 232 spaces, and that the hotel is close to the city’s main transport hub.

Galway City Council is due to make a decision on this planning application by September 20.
