A weather warning has been issued for heavy rain and thunderstorms in Galway today, with a risk of local flooding.
The status yellow alert issued by Met Eireann for all of Ireland warns that thunderstorms and rain will develop in the west of Ireland today.
As the day progresses, the rain and thunder will move eastwards this evening, where they will continue tonight.
Localised downpours will lead to spot flooding and hazardous driving conditions.
The weather warning for all of Ireland will be in place from midday today until 5am on Tuesday morning.
Galway is also under an environmental warning for today and tomorrow, as Met Eireann has cautioned that weather conditions here are conducive to the spread of potato blight.
After a blistering heatwave last week, temperatures in Galway are forecast to reach highs of 17 to 18 degrees today, slightly lower in coastal areas, with a light to moderate northwesterly wind.
