Student nurses will be paid during COVID-19 crisis

Student nurses working in the health service during the COVID-19 crisis will be paid, Minister Simon Harris has confirmed.

Around 4,000 student nurses and midwives will be offered contracts as Healthcare Assistants, and they be paid accordingly.

The announcement follows widespread calls for students who are working in hospitals across the country to help fight the coronavirus to be paid for their work.

The Minister for Health thanked the nurses and healthcare staff for their work during this difficult time and said that we need ‘all hands on deck’ to combat the virus in Ireland.

The student nurses and midwives will be paid if they sign up at http://hse.ie/oncall , even if they are already in the system.
