Independent councillor Mike Cubbard has confirmed that he will seek re-election to Galway City Council in the forthcoming local elections in the Galway City Central ward.

Cllr Mike Cubbard said that he will once again be running a ‘no posters’ campaign, meaning voters won’t see hundreds of pictures of him across the city.

The councillor thanked the people of Galway for their support since the 2019 election, and in particular throughout his two terms as Mayor of Galway City from 2019 to 2021.

He said that it was the greatest honour of his life to represent the city he loves as first citizen, and that he is now putting his name forward for re-election with the hope of being returned to city hall as an Independent councillor.

If elected, Cllr Cubbard said that his priorities will be social and affordable housing, housing maintenance, prioritising young people, traffic, green spaces, supporting local sports clubs, anti-social behaviour and community repair works.

“I will remain a strong advocate for increased initiatives to address our housing challenges,” he said.

“I am part of a generation locked out of home ownership and whilst housing strategy is the role of our national government, we must continue to put forward projects locally and then apply the required pressure to have them delivered by Government.

“We have far too many people waiting for a home, this cannot continue.”
